Finding My Spark at Casa Calibra

By: Rachel Rae, Guest Extraordinaire, February 2025 Resident of Bliss

It was evident my soul needed a bit of a reset. February brought with it an onslaught of abysmal gray and tired snowfall—me, wrapped in a mound of blankets with only the residual glow of the holidays flickering in the rearview. So when an invitation arrived from my long-distance friends to meet at a retreat called Casa Calibra, I felt the unmistakable whisper of yes. A trip I quite literally needed.

The journey began on Colorado’s Western Slope, where I braved a full-on blizzard just to make it to the international airport—because, naturally, nothing says “relaxing retreat” like white-knuckling it through whiteout conditions. After a quick, sparkly interlude in Mexico City (chaotic, charming, and caffeinated), the real magic began.

We stepped off the plane in Puerto and everything shifted. Greeted with wide smiles and heartfelt hugs by our hosts, Seri and Amorina, we were instantly ushered into a different frequency—one where time bends, breath deepens, and every detail feels touched by intention.

Casa Calibra is the ultimate sanctuary in a world of perpetual motion. Seri, a true master of restoration, has meticulously curated a space designed for deep renewal. Alongside his radiant counterpart, Amorina, they’ve created something much more than a retreat—they’re planting seeds of transformation, guided by holistic health practices that nourish mind, body, and spirit.

Conveniently nestled near La Punta, Casa Calibra offers exceptional accommodations and a world-class culinary experience. Mealtime here is an event, a reverent ritual. Chef Abi and her husband, Alexis, are nothing short of culinary wizards. Each dish was crafted with vibrant, nourishing ingredients, plated on stunning tablescapes, and delivered with flavors that lingered long after the last bite. Honestly, some of the best meals of my life happened barefoot and blissed-out at that table.

Even the water is sacred here. Thanks to their enhanced filtration system, clean, purified water flows through the entire property—a detail that feels both luxurious and lovingly thoughtful.

Mornings unfolded with vinyasa yoga, Pilates, and beach walks that stirred something ancient in me. We cold plunged. We sipped coco fríos. We sauna’d and stretched and smiled. One of my favorite moments was a tango session led by Amorina—watching my friends connect through music and movement was so tender it practically turned me to glitter.

From the very first day, I felt a deep, cellular shift. Maybe it was the way shadows danced across the walls in the common spaces or the birds that sang like they were paid for it. Perhaps it was the unhurried rhythm of the days. But more likely, it was the beings. Because everything at Casa Calibra—every pillow, every plant, every soul—feels deeply alive.

The days were a delicious blend of movement, stillness, exploration, and laughter. We wandered through hidden beach coves, let the ocean recalibrate our senses, and spent quiet evenings under star-pricked skies. There was no striving, no hustling—only presence. It wasn’t about doing more. It was about being enough. Being human. Being held. Being wildly, joyfully alive in my own skin.

One night, I caught myself smiling for no reason. Pure, unprovoked joy. That’s when I knew something real was happening. A reinvigoration. A subtle return. My cells were remembering something ancient and true: I am meant to feel this good.

My time at Casa Calibra was a masterclass in abundance—celebrating community, mindful movement, and food made with love. It reminded me that the connection between self and surroundings is sacred. That when we slow down, when we soften, we remember who we really are.

Casa Calibra didn’t just give me rest. It gave me resonance. I left feeling more me than I had in a long, long time—like I could finally hear the hum of my own frequency again.

So if you're wondering whether to go... consider this your nudge. Don’t overpack (you truly won’t need much). Bring your journal. Leave your worries at home. And get ready to meet yourself again—in the most magical, irreverent, life-affirming way.

Casa Calibra isn’t just a place. It’s a state of mind. Derived from the verb calibrar—to calibrate—it lives up to its name. You’ll leave feeling recalibrated, inspired, and deeply grateful. I couldn’t recommend the experience enough.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

With a full heart and unwavering gratitude,

Rachel Rae
